DEFINING THE ROLE OF THE VICTIM ADVOCATE IN A MASS VIOLENCE EVENT TRAINING

The Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN) is pleased to announce the dates and location of the following training:  Defining the Role of the Victim Advocate in a Mass Violence Event.  The training will be held March 20 - 22, 2019 at the Courtyard by Marriott Historic District, located at 620 Caroline Street, Fredericksburg, Virginia, 22041.

The training will include a variety of topics related to mass violence response and will be tailored specifically to victim advocates.  Training delivery will include small group activities (including table top exercises), panel presentations, case examples, and lecture.

After attending the training, we anticipate that participants will have a better knowledge of local, state, and federal resources for victims impacted by a mass violence event, have an understanding of the command structure common for these types of events, and will be able to identify additional and appropriate ways to respond to victims impacted by an event in their locality.

This training is similar to the Advanced Victim Assistance Academy that VVAN coordinated in August of 2018 and is being offered again in response to additional demand.

Who should attend:

This training is designed primarily for victim assistance professionals working in systems-based agencies (i.e., prosecutor's offices, law enforcement or any other government entity).  Other professionals working with crime victims, such as community-based advocates, mental health counselors, crisis response workers, etc., would also benefit from this training.

Registration:

The cost for this training is $75.00, which includes training materials.  You can register with VVAN at the following link: vanetwork.org under the "Events" section.

This is a two-and-a-half day training, beginning on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 and ending on Friday, March 22, 2019 at noon.  Breakfast will be included all three days of the training and lunch will be included on Wednesday and Thursday.

The training on March 20, 2019 will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.  Please arrive a few minutes early to register and pick up your training materials.  Training on the second day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.  The final day of training will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at noon.   Certificates will be provided for attendees who attend all two-and-a-half days of training.

Dress is casual, but remember that the temperature can vary in training rooms, so dressing in layers is the best option.

Please note that you are responsible to secure and pay for your lodging costs, incidentals, and any meals not provided at the training.
