BASIC VICTIM ASSISTANCE ACADEMY IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION!

The Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN) is pleased to announce open registration for a Basic Victim Assistance Academy to be held September 24-27, 2019 at the Wingate by Wyndham Richmond Short Pump, located at 13991 N. Gayton Rd, Richmond, VA 23233.

Purpose:

The Basic Victim Assistance Academy provides fundamental education for victim service providers and allied professionals who routinely interact with victims of crime. It is designed for advocates who are new to victim services and have less than one year of experience.  The curriculum includes sessions that cover the core competencies of victim advocacy.

Audience:

The Basic Victim Assistance Academy is designed primarily for victim assistance professionals working in system-based agencies (i.e., prosecutor’s offices, law enforcement or any other government entity). Other professionals working with crime victims such as community-based advocates are also welcome to attend.

*Please note:  If you participated in the Basic Intensive Advocacy Training (BIAT) in August you are welcome to attend, but know that this training will repeat many of the workshops presented at the BIAT.  However, other topics will be added

If your schedule does not permit you to attend this training, another Basic Victim Assistance Academy will be planned for 2020, so stay tuned for that announcement.

Registration and Payment:

Attendance is limited to 30 attendees and will be on first-come, first-serve basis.

The cost for this training is $75.00 and includes training materials.

Logistics:

This is a three-and-a-half day training, beginning on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, and ending on Friday, September 27, 2019.  Breakfast will be included all four days of the training. Lunch is included the first, second, and third days of training.

Registration for this training will begin at 8:00 a.m. September 24, 2019, and the first workshop will begin at 9:00 a.m. The training will end at 5:00 p.m.  Training on the second and third day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.  The final day of training will begin at 8:30 a.m. and end by noon. Certificates will be provided for attendees who attend all three-and-a-half days of training.

Dress is casual. Please be aware that temperatures can vary in training rooms, so wearing layers is a good idea.

Please note that you are responsible for your lodging costs, incidentals, and any meals not provided at this training.

Lodging:

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Wingate Wyndham Richmond Short Pump for overnight accommodations at the government rate of $94.00, plus taxes and fees. The address is 13991 N Gayton Rd, Richmond, VA 23233.

Parking:

Free, garage parking is available to hotel guests.

Scholarships:

A limited number of scholarships to pay lodging costs are available for those who can demonstrate a strong need for assistance.  If interested, please email Kim DiJoseph at kim.dijoseph@vanetwork.org.  Applications for scholarships will be due by August 30, 2019.

BY REGISTERING, YOU AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

REGISTRATION CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY

Requests for training registration cancellations and refunds must be submitted in writing to Kim DiJoseph at kim.dijoseph@vanetwork.org  no later than September 9, 2019. A $10.00 Processing fee will be assessed, after SEPTEMBER 9, 2019, NO REFUNDS WILL BE CONSIDERED OR ISSUED.

If you are unable to attend the training, a substitute may be sent in your place. Please contact Kim DiJoseph at kim.dijoseph@vanetwork.org with substitute information.

Participants that fail to show and fail to provide prior notification of inability to attend are still responsible for payment of the full registration fee.  


This training is provided as part of an OVC Training & Technical Assistance Grant (2018-V3-GX-0090).  Additional sponsorship support is provided by the Virginia Victims Fund. No federal funding is utilized to pay for food.
