The Virginia Victim Assistance Network is pleased to announce our 2020 Advanced Victim Assistance Academy: “Resilience and Vicarious Trauma: Supporting Victim Witness Leaders as They Lead Through These Times.”

This one-day, VIRTUAL Advanced Academy will focus on building resilience at the individual, team and organizational levels. Beginning with a deeper dive into considerations of both the negative and positive impact of working with survivors of trauma, facilitators will move into mitigating factors and strategies for leaders to employ.

Integrating the complicating factors associated with the pandemic, an emphasis will be on understanding resilience and learning methods for strengthening this personally and within a team.

About the Advanced Academy:

The Advanced Academy is offered once per year and is designed for experienced advocates.  Each year, the Advanced Academy focuses on a different topic(s) and crime type or victim population(s), working to hone advanced skills, aid sustainable advocacy, and enhance capacity building.

Though at a distance, this virtual Advanced Academy will be highly interactive, providing content along with large and small group discussions and activities designed to bring a better understanding and new strategies to each participant.

Small and large group discussion and activities, including lunch break with option to temporarily log-out or remain logged-in.

Who Should Attend:

This training is designed primarily for victim assistance professionals working in system-based agencies (i.e., prosecutor’s offices, law enforcement or any other government entity). Other professionals working with crime victims such as community-based advocates, mental health counselors, crisis response workers, etc., would also benefit from this training.

About the Virtual Platform:

We will host an optional Zoom Test Session for all registered attendees who would like to get comfortable logging in on Wednesday, May 27th from 9:00am-9:30am. All registered attendees will receive the link to the test session link the day before the session.
