Making It Meaningful: A Victims Rights Lunch-and-Learn Series

About the Training :

The Legal Services Program of the Virginia Victim Assistance Network welcomes you to celebrate National Crime Victims Rights Week with our ‘Making it Meaningful’ victim rights lunch-and-learn series. Join LSP staff Sarika Reuben, Esq., and Sarah Okolita, MSW, during your lunch break while we explore different rights guaranteed under the Crime Victim and Witness Right Act.

Learn about these rights in detail and the steps the Legal Services Program has taken to make these rights meaningful for victims in Virginia. Each presentation will end with an opportunity for questions and answers with special guest victim rights expert Sarah Ford, Esq., of South Carolina Victim Assistance Network.

  • "Right to be Treated with Dignity, Respect, and Fairness"

    Weds, April 21st at 12:00-12:45pm:

    • "Right to Information and Notice"

    Thurs, April 22nd at 12:00-12:45pm:

    • "Right to be Present and Heard"

    Training/Event Agenda:

    Each session will include:

    • Introduction to VVAN’s Legal Services Program,
    • Review of Virginia legal code for the victims right of the day,
    • Facilitated conversation around how to best uphold this right,
    • Presentation of campaigns Legal Services Program has initiated and carried out in the past year to enforce this right,
    • Troubleshooting Q&A’s with South Carolina’s Victim Assistance Network’s Legal Services Director Sarah Ford, Esq.

    Who Should Attend:

    Victim services professionals including advocates, law enforcement, and prosecutors.

    Virtual via Zoom [the same link for all 4 sessions will be provided to registered participants prior to 4/19]

We recommend that participants join using the Zoom application in order to fully participate but dial-in instructions will be provided for all training. Our trainers will make efforts to engage all participants whether joining by Zoom or by phone.
