"New Year, New Intentions: Group Meditation Practice for Advocates"

and be in mindful community with fellow advocates.


About this offering

At its core, the definition of mindfulness is to be fully present and aware without judgment. And at its core, advocacy is defined as action that supports another. Imagine the possibilities if we turn mindfulness in the direction of self-advocacy -- supporting ourselves first. Imagine the possibilities that can emerge when we bring mindfulness into our advocacy work -- transforming how we support others. Let's explore this practice together in a brave, empathic and accountable community of fellow advocates.


Event details

Once registered, you may join any or all sessions -- whatever and whenever works for you. However, we do fully encourage you to prioritize your participation with the same dedication in which you serve others.


Monday Sessions

  • Set intention for the week (1-2 minutes)
  • Guided meditation (10-15 minutes)
  • Reflection and optional share-out (5-10 minutes)

Friday Sessions

  • Reflect on and optional share-out of the week's intention (5-10 minutes)
  • Guided meditation (10-15 minutes)
  • Reflection and optional share-out (1-2 minutes)

Who?

Any levels welcome! Those brand-new and experienced will benefit from these gentle, group meditation practices.

  • 12:15 - 12:40 pm
  • Every Monday and Friday from January 10 - February 25, 2022
  • Please note that there may be dates where a recording is offered in lieu of a live session. Registered participants will be informed by email of any changes to live sessions.

About the Facilitator 

Kim Flournoy DiJoseph, aside from 30+ years in the advocacy field including nearly 2 years as VVAN's part-time project and training coordinator, has an intuitive healing practice, Hot Mess Work, that includes the use of mindfulness and meditation. She believes in the intentional integration of true and deep self-care practices into the lives of advocates and incorporates mindful moments throughout trainings and academies. Kim has experience facilitating group meditation as well as years of previous experience facilitating group processes in both clinical and agency settings. For this series, she will utilize various ways to explore meditation such as the use of music, movement, guided imagery, recorded meditations, and holding space for silence.

We recommend that participants join using the Zoom application in order to fully participate but dial-in instructions will be provided for all training. Our trainers will make efforts to engage all participants whether joining by Zoom or by phone.
