This session is part of the Exploring & Expanding Advocate Wellness virtual series, facilitated by Kim Flournoy DiJoseph, The Network's Wellness Consultant. The series borrows from the NCVRW's 2022 theme of "Rights, Access, Equity" and invites victim advocates to explore and expand these themes in relation to our own well-being. There is no cost to attend these virtual sessions.

The Virginia Victim Bill of Rights recognizes victims as anyone who has suffered physical, emotional, or financial harm as a direct result of a crime. While victim advocates are not affected directly by crime, we do know that supporting victims of crime can vicariously take its own toll on advocates’ wellness.

Let’s come together to dream up and draft up our very own Advocates’ Bill of Wellness Rights! What do we need to be and stay well in this work? What might come of our collective brainstorming with the intention of getting specific about what we each need to make self-care real?

This will be a lively, interactive, and creative session with time in large and/or small breakout group discussion and real-time collaboration via Google docs.

Following the session, advocates will have access to the participant-generated Bill of Wellness Rights to serve as a reminder of our own wellness needs.
