The Virginia Victim Assistance Network is pleased to announce our first in-person Basic Victim Assistance Academy since 2019! The Academy will be held February 27-March 1, 2023 at The Virginian Hotel in Lynchburg, VA.

The Basic Victim Assistance Academy provides fundamental education for victim service providers and allied professionals who routinely interact with victims of crime. It is designed for advocates who are new to victim services and have less than one year of experience.  The curriculum includes sessions that cover the core competencies of victim advocacy. While the Basic Academy is generally for advocates with less than one year of service, this iteration will be open to advocates with less than three years of experience to accommodate advocates who joined the field during our in-person hiatus.

The Basic Victim Assistance Academy is designed primarily for victim assistance professionals working in system-based agencies (i.e., prosecutor’s offices, law enforcement or any other government entity). Other professionals working with crime victims such as community-based advocates are also welcome to attend.
