Does anyone have knowledge on the U Visa or know of anyone who can help me out?
Thanks,
Karen
What exactly do you want to know, Karen? It's a type of Visa that allows illegal aliens who have been victims of crime (and cooperated with law enforcement and the court system)to remain in the US. You really don't wanna know exactly how I feel about these.
Karen,
Futures Without Violence provided us a lot of info on the U Visa at a Project Grantee meeting last year. However, I left my folder with all of that information at my old job with the person handling Project Connect. Check with the Project Connect Coordinator at Futures. Her e-mail is: SKukke@futureswithoutviolence.org. She can probably give you the latest and/or answer questions (or send you to someone who can).
Thanks Laura and Laurie. I was looking for in depth information, who to refer the client to and I will call the resource you gave me Laurie.
Normally, Immigration attorneys handle U-Visa applications. That would be who I would refer your client to contact.
If you have a Legal Services Office in your locality, it is usually a good place to start. I know that Rappahannock Legal Services has provided training and assistance with U-Visas. Their phone number is: (540) 371-1115. Ann Kloeckner is the Executive Director. Her e-mail address is: akloeckner@rapplegal.com.
Ginny,
Thank you. We do have legal services. I will give them a call.
